5-Axis Sculpting
Today’s advanced digitizing techniques, computer software and high performance CNC machines have replaced age-old techniques for enlarging, reducing and copying almost any 3D sculpture or object.
Scale models can be created using existing data files, or if necessary, existing sculptures can be laser scanned to capture a three-dimensional digital model of the original shape.
That data can then be easily scaled up or scaled down. It can even be a mirror imaged or reversed. Once the data is finalized, our 5-axis machines can sculpt with amazing precision and speed.
For example, one artist recently had us scan a 22” sculpture that he wanted to re-create as a 9-foot-tall bronze statue. Using the data we captured, with a 3D scan, we were able to carve an exact copy that was more than 5 times larger than the original. After the artist put a few minor touches on this giant foam replica, it was used to create a mold for casting the monument in bronze.
For another project, we were able to use a client’s drawings of a custom-made boat, to create a four-foot scale model for design analysis that we machined out of a modeling board.
- Full-size foam mock ups of large prototypes
- Sculpture enlargements
- Scale models of existing structures, products or sculptures.
- Replicate architectural trim and moldings
